SCA 2 Up TTT
The sunny warm weather that was hoped for did not materialise and we had a damp and cool morning. So still awaiting that first fine Spring day.
Considering the conditions only a couple of pairs were DNS. Crawleys Wheelers pairing of Emsby and Smith brushed off the damp conditions to record a highly creditable 1:00:48. This is one of the fastest winning times for the course, within 60 seconds of the current course record set on a somewhat dryer day. Notable mention also go to the Worthing pairing of Cheesman and Booker who cleared up 3rd place, Vets on Std and also best matching pair. Congratulations to them both. Finally its worth noting the best composite team and second placed team were all on road bikes showing really well against the TT bike teams. |

|
Brighton Mitre CC Hilly 10
A cold rainy day made worse by the extremely poor road surface. The opening 4.5 miles were as if on unmade roads. Quite appalling. This was reflected in high proportion of DNF's as one in eight riders failed to complete a mere 10 miles.
Laurence Manning of Thames Velo was the winner with 23:02 ahead of Sam Christy (TAAP Cervelo) 23:41 and Mark Perry (Vicious Velo) 23:48. Ian Paine (London Dynamo) 24:15 was the fastest on a road bike and Gemma Hobson (Sussex Nomads CC) 30:33 also on a road bike was the fastest (only) female competitior. |

|
Crawley Wheelers CC Sporting 41.6
The CW Sporting event is always a testing course due to its rolling and hilly nature as well as incorporating some of the worst kept roads in West Sussex in terms of potholes and broken road surfaces. The course took its toll with quite a few DNF's due to mechanical issues (mainly punctures) as well as a number of more sensible riders opting not to start due to the conditions.
Today's podium consisted of: 1st - Richard Price (London Phoenix) 1.34.47 2nd - Simon McNamara (SDB/Casco) 1.35.07 3rd - Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) 1.37.01. |

SCA Hard Riders -17.19 miles
A double whammy of bad luck for this event being run for the first time by Clive Jackson of Central Sussex CC.
Ongoing roadworks meant that the course had to be altered (from 22.80 miles down to 17.19 miles). Then the extended arctic period took its toll as all the region's cycling events for the weekend were called off. |
